Coffee & cocoa Houses
What is a Coffee House?
Each month, we partner with The Plaza Arts Center to present a Coffee House, a night of free entertainment provided by local talent. Coffee Houses are a great opportunity for youth to share what they have been working on - whether it be for school, competition, or personal enjoyment - with their community and get practice performing in front of an audience. With music, poetry, skits, dance, and more, Coffee Houses have something for everyone. Concessions of coffee, hot chocolate, and pastries are sold to raise funds for our summer youth programs, Camp Broadway and The Broadway Intensive.
Coffee Houses feature high school and college-aged performers while the Cocoa Houses feature performers in grades 5th-8th. Additionally, the annual Mocha House features performers of all ages (when you mix coffee and cocoa, you get a mocha)! Students, teachers, siblings, retirees, and everyone in between all have a blast supporting each other during this event.
**Note: Performers, stagehands, and volunteers receive service hours for Coffee/Cocoa House events**
Schedule Coming Soon
Check back in a few months to find the 2024 Coffee House schedule
Stagehands are responsible for keeping the entertainment running smoothly by moving microphones, holding instruments, and whatever may be needed. If you are interested in being a stagehand, please fill out the Questions for Coffee House Form (below the "Virtual Submissions" section).
An act can be a monologue, a short scene, a poetry reading, singig with a track or live music, an acapella group, a comedy act - you name it! An act should be no more than 10 minutes (they can be shorter - just not longer). We ask that all acts be family-friendly. Please check the age requirements for the event when submissions are being accepted.
Who can perform?
Coffee House (February and May) : Open to performers ages 14 (9th grade) to 25
